Enough’s Enough

Today I read a great post from Rachel Held Evans that pointed me to this incredible idea by St Teresa of Avila:

Let nothing upset you, Let nothing startle you. All things pass; God does not change. Patience wins all it seeks. Whoever has God lacks nothing: God alone is enough.

I guess sometimes we all need to be reminded that we alone control our reaction to the people and circumstances that confront us.

If we expect to breeze through life without facing challenges, we’ll often be upset.

If we think we can expect anything, the only expectation we should have is that our apple cart will be tipped over often.

But if we’re prepared in mind and heart to embrace whatever comes with a confident trust in the God who does not change even when everything else around us does, then we can discover something of a peace that we’ll never know while clinging to our failing expectations.

Whoever has God lacks nothing

God alone is enough…
