So yesterday we completed our second in a short, three-week series on Grace at Redwood Park Church in Thunder Bay.
As might be expected, much of my reading outside of the scriptures for the topic came from Brennan Manning. Brennan is the author of The Ragamuffin Gospel, which in my estimation is one of the greats on Grace.
I love hearing the stories of people getting reawakened by grace through our services at Redwood and getting to see God surprise people with his reckless love for them.
I do recommend that you pick up Brennan’s book and strive to make Grace the new way of your life. Here’s a quick quote from the book.
Our huffing and puffing to impress God, our scrambling for brownie points, our thrashing about trying to fix ourselves while hiding our pettiness and wallowing in guilt are nauseating to God and are a flat denial of the gospel of grace. Our approach to the Christian life is as absurd as the enthusiastic young man who had just received his plumber’s license and was taken to see Niagara Falls. He studied it for a minute and then said, “I think I can fix this.
You can’t fix it. But Jesus has. Enjoy his grace today!
